Three sample nights by budget

The same street produces very different nights depending on where you put the money. Here are three easy-to-copy patterns, with the arithmetic behind each. Every figure below includes the 250 THB dinner and the 10% service charge and 7% VAT.

1. The night you look around
roughly 1,500-2,500 THB

Dinner at a local restaurant around 8pm (under 250 THB), one bar on Soi Cowboy with two drinks (360 THB) plus one lady drink (180 THB), then a snack bar on a free-flow plan (700 THB) and a walk back to the hotel. The 1,240 THB spent inside venues becomes about 1,450 THB with service charge and VAT; with dinner, roughly 1,700 THB. This is the night for people who want to see the place first — and holding the budget means one go-go bar, not three.

2. The standard night
roughly 3,500-5,000 THB

Dinner, then one bar on Soi Cowboy (three drinks at 540 THB plus two lady drinks at 360 THB), then a private karaoke room for 90 minutes (2,000-3,000 THB). The 2,900-3,900 THB inside venues becomes about 3,400-4,600 THB with service charge and VAT; with dinner, roughly 3,650-4,800 THB. You get both halves of the experience — the stage, and actually sitting next to someone and talking — which is why this shape delivers the most consistent night. For three or more people it is the default.

3. The night you build (two to four people)

Dinner, one quick go-go bar (540 THB), then a private VIP room: 2,000-2,500 THB per person for the set, a 5,000 THB bottle split two to four ways at 1,250-2,500 THB each, a 500 THB nomination fee and 500 THB in tips. The 4,790-6,540 THB inside venues becomes about 5,600-7,650 THB with service charge and VAT; with dinner, roughly 5,850-7,900 THB. A second bottle takes it to around 9,000 THB. This is the night you plan when you want one story everyone retells.

Four things that inflate your bill

Almost every blown budget traces back to one of these four. Handle them and the bill lands where you expected.

  1. Lady drinks, one after another — This is the single biggest driver at go-go bars. Each one costs about what your own drink costs, but buying several for several people stacks up fast. Deciding on a number before you sit down changes the outcome more than anything else on this page.
  2. 10% service charge plus 7% VAT — At most venues these sit outside the listed price. Together that is about 17%: on a 6,000 THB tab, roughly 1,000 THB extra. Budget at 1.2x the menu price and you will not be surprised.
  3. Bar fine terms — The amount and the conditions vary so widely between venues that this site does not publish a single going rate. If you are considering it, confirm the terms before you order, not after — afterwards there is nothing left to negotiate.
  4. The extra venue after 2am — Asok and Sukhumvit close at 2am. The 4am licence applies only inside designated entertainment zones — Silom/Patpong, RCA to New Phetchaburi, and Ratchadaphisek. Pushing past 2am means a taxi fare plus a fresh cover charge at a new venue. If the budget matters, treat 1am as last orders.

Five ways to keep the cost down

The goal is to cut the overruns, not the fun. In order of how much they actually save you:

  1. Share a bottle across the group — Nothing else lowers the per-person figure as much. A 4,000 THB bottle split four ways is 1,000 THB each — cheaper than the same volume by the glass, and you keep the table.
  2. Pick a venue with a free-flow plan first — Anchoring the night on a free-flow plan from 700 THB makes the ceiling knowable. Walking around looking for somewhere cheap is the pattern that costs the most time and money.
  3. Set your lady-drink number in advance — No need to refuse them. Just fix the ceiling before you start.
  4. Read the bill before you pay — Check whether service charge and VAT are already in, and that nothing you did not order is on it. Ask at the table and it gets fixed; ask on the street and it does not.
  5. Arrive in the 9pm hour — Earlier means your choice of seat and an unhurried conversation. The same money buys a denser night.

One or two people wanting a relaxed drink: a snack bar. Three or more building a night: a private VIP room. Remember that one fork and venue choice stops being a gamble. These figures are per person for one venue, excluding dinner.

Until 2am. In Bangkok, only the designated entertainment zones — Silom/Patpong, RCA to New Phetchaburi Road, and Ratchadaphisek — hold a 4am licence, and Sukhumvit and Asok are not among them (as of September 2026). Plan the night around a 1am last order.
